Emerging technology like ChatGPT can simultaneously intensify uncertainty and offer opportunities for critical thinking skill development when students are seeking new information for assignments. This interactive workshop will begin with a discussion of empirical evidence of how undergraduate students approach assignments that require them to incorporate outside sources—a process that often involves anxiety and frustration. We will then explore the implications of generative AI tools like ChatGPT for scaffolding learning tasks and breaking down stages of the information-seeking process.

Note: this session does not focus on the implications of generative AI for academic integrity issues.
