This workshop is presented in partnership with the Concordia Undergraduate Psychology Association (CUPA).

With increased opportunities for in-person activities on campus and beyond, each of us will encounter varying degrees of comfort, feelings, hesitations and experiences in relation to the pandemic. In this interactive workshop, we will review some of the challenges that might arise. Participants will explore self-compassion as an inner resource for navigating transition and associated difficulties with self-kindness and non-judgmental acceptance. We will also share practical skills for fostering self-compassion and emotional safety within ourselves and in our communities, and identify campus and community support resources.

Learning objectives

  • Identify some of the challenges that students may experience with transition and change
  • Gain an understanding of self-compassion and its components (mindfulness, common humanity and self-kindness)
  • Discover self-compassion practices to better cope with transition and other stressors
  • Find campus and community support resources

Facilitator: Camila Velez (MA, c.o., Psychotherapist, OPQ) is a Wellness Counsellor at Concordia’s Counselling and Psychological Services and Zen Dens. She has co-developed and facilitated Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) workshops for medical trainees and survivors of sexual violence.
