This workshop provides a brief insight into my Thinking Body Technique format, in which we will explore how we can reflect on and question dance appropriation and teaching practices while practicing it. For these three days, we will focus on aspects of initiation, interruption, and predictability of movements.

The daily sessions are divided into two parts. In the first part, we will work on movement material from different dance technique backgrounds with the aim of reflecting on our own aesthetic and personal norms and assumptions that inform what we consider good dance training.

The second part is about exploring and developing body structures that ask what kind of closeness, what kind of spaces, what kind of partner constellations arise when we follow or resist our first impulse. We will try out and develop scores that allow us exploring which movements, which forms of physical collaboration, which spacing we habitually prefer and which arise when we make them explicit, working with and against them.

This practical seminar offers the opportunity to explore the limits of what we (personally) perceive as too much or too little (movement, closeness, space) and to make this tension fruitful for our own dance technique or choreographic work.
