In this Lunch & Learn, Katherine Diamond will discuss how digital mapping can be used to document and interpret patterns of Irish migration across Quebec through the development of the Canadian Irish Migration Preservation Network’s Irish MileTM Interactive Map.
Funded by the Secrétariat aux relations avec les Québécois d’expression anglaise (SQREA), this bilingual initiative brings together archival research, genealogical investigation, and community-based heritage documentation to map sites connected to Irish settlement and commemoration across the province, linking Quebec's Irish heritage to the broader North American story.
About the speaker
Katherine Diamond is a Master’s student of History at Concordia University, studying the participation of Irish soldiers in the American Revolutionary War. She is currently Project Manager for the Canadian Irish Migration Preservation Network’s Preserving and Showcasing Irish History in Quebec Project. Her experiences working in postsecondary, museological, and heritage spaces have impassioned her to seek out ways to foster the love of history in the general public, primarily through the development of publicly accessible research tools and educational programs.

Dîner-causerie : The Irish Mile : cartographie numérique des mouvements migratoires irlandais au Québec
À l’occasion de ce dîner-causerie, Katherine Diamond expliquera comment la cartographie numérique peut servir à documenter et à interpréter les mouvements migratoires irlandais au Québec grâce à la mise au point de la carte interactive The Irish Mile du Réseau canadien de préservation de la migration irlandaise.
Financée par le Secrétariat aux relations avec les Québécois d’expression anglaise (SRQEA), cette initiative bilingue combine recherche archivistique, enquêtes généalogiques et documents patrimoniaux afin de cartographier les lieux liés à l’établissement et à la commémoration des communautés irlandaises à travers la province. Elle établit ainsi un lien entre le patrimoine irlandais du Québec et l’histoire nord-américaine.
Cet événement se déroulera en anglais avec des sous-titres en français.
À propos de la conférencière
Katherine Diamond étudie à la maîtrise en histoire à l’Université Concordia, où ses recherches portent sur la participation de soldats irlandais à la guerre d’indépendance américaine. Elle est gestionnaire de projet pour l’initiative Préserver et mettre en valeur le patrimoine irlandais au Québec du Réseau canadien de préservation de la migration irlandaise. Son expérience dans les milieux de l’enseignement supérieur, de la muséologie et du patrimoine l’a amenée à développer un intérêt pour la diffusion de l’histoire auprès d’un large public, notamment par la création d’outils de recherche et de programmes éducatifs accessibles.
