Regional Realities: From Arrival to Belonging
About the event
Join us for the premiere of Regional Realities: From Arrival to Belonging, a bilingual 40-minute film that explores Quebec City through the experiences of three English-speaking newcomers. Set in a predominantly francophone environment, the documentary follows their daily lives as they navigate language, identity, and belonging in the city.
Alongside these personal stories, local English-language organizations share their work welcoming and orienting newcomers. The film also examines the broader history of English-speaking immigrants to Quebec City.
Blending video ethnography and research-creation, the documentary by QUESCREN Research Associate Anita Aloisio captures the adaptation to a new environment in real time.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A and refreshments.

Joignez-vous à nous pour la première du film Réalités régionales : de l’arrivée vers l’enracinement, un documentaire bilingue de 40 minutes qui explore la ville de Québec à travers le parcours de trois nouvelles arrivantes d’expression anglaise. Dans un environnement majoritairement francophone, le film offre un regard intime sur leur quotidien alors qu’elles s’adaptent à leur nouvelle communauté et composent avec les enjeux liés à la langue, à l’identité et au sentiment d’appartenance.
Leurs récits font écho aux témoignages d’organismes communautaires anglophones engagés dans l’accueil et l’accompagnement des nouveaux arrivants, tout en apportant un éclairage sur l’histoire de l’immigration anglophone à Québec.
Réalisé par Anita Aloisio, attachée de recherche à QUESCREN, ce documentaire s’appuie sur la vidéoethnographie et la recherche-création pour documenter en temps réel, le processus d’adaptation à un nouveau milieu de vie.
