In this talk, Dr. Q will present the TBI-Health program, a peer-based leisure-time physical activity program with telehealth supports, which he and his collaborators co-created and tested with community-dwelling adults living with moderate-to-severe TBI, in both a fitness centre and an outdoor walking format.
He will also draw on his work as a postdoctoral researcher at the Baylor Scott & White Research Institute in Dallas, TX and Research Scientist at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston, MA, by describing how collaborations on NIDILRR-supported traumatic brain injury (TBI) Model System projects and DoD-supported spinal cord injury (SCI) Robotic Exoskeleton projects complements his current community-based approach in Canada.
Then, he will introduce everyone to the Leisure-Time Physical Activity Lab and the next phase of his work, which is expanding the TBI-Health program with telehealth supports for persons with TBI in collaboration with the Department of Applied Human Sciences and the School of Health at Concordia University.
Dr. Enrico Quilico completed his Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Sciences Institute at the University of Toronto and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Rehabilitation of Greater Montreal, where his research focused on co-creating, implementing, and evaluating a community-based peer-led physical activity program for adults with moderate-to-severe TBI that was supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). Dr. Quilico obtained a graduate degree in Adapted Physical Activity from McGill University and an undergraduate degree in Education from Concordia University. He has been working as an advocate for TBI awareness since 2008 and was recognized for my contributions as a Global Hero in 2020, the winner of the 2019 SSHRC Storyteller Competition and the 2018 Change-Maker Awardee by the Neurological Health Charities of Canada.
The Brown Bag Lunch Research Series is offered by the Department of Applied Human Sciences. These sessions are opportunities for faculty researchers to discuss an issue, topic or area on which they are working. At each session, there will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.
Light refreshments will be served. Bring your own lunch. Support environmental sustainability and bring your own mug.
