Undergraduate awards
Each year the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry recognises students with outstanding academic achievements.



2019-2020 awards
The awardees for the 2019-2020 academic year are:
- Kwan Ming Tam: Lenoir Book Prize
- Cassandra Roussel: First Year Achievement Award
- Danielle Thuy Mai Nguyen: CSC Silver Medal Award in Biochemistry
- Nicole Paredes Vegas: CSC Silver Medal Award in Chemistry
- Constantinos Blidjios: SCI-CIC Graduating Student Merit Award in Biochemistry
- Kelly Burchell-Reyes: SCI-CIC Graduating Student Merit Award in Chemistry
Awards are also presented to outstanding students in a given academic year. This year’s award holders are:

- Fanta Dabo: Award of Excellence – Year 1, Chemistry
- Seyedehnegin Nabavi: Award of Excellence – Co-op, Year 1.5

- Karina Wong: Award of Excellence – Co-op, Year 2.5

The awardees for the external awards for the 2019-2020 academic year are:
Gilead Award of the Fondation Lucien-Piché
Exceptional Co-op student for the Faculty of Arts and Science
Recipient of the Bergeron Family Undergraduate Co-op Scholarship
- Kwan Ming Tam
The award of the prestigious Gilead scholarship of the Fondation Lucien-Piché encourages Kwan Ming to continue his studies at the graduate level.
Kwan Ming has maintained excellent academic standing and excellent standing at the Institute for Co-operative Education and demonstrated leadership and commitment to Co-op education.
The Provost's Medal
- Kelly Burchell-Reyes
Kelly has shown commitment and spirit towards academic excellence, leadership, athleticism, and civic responsibility reflecting the values exemplified by Concordia University and the Office of the Provost.
MITACS Research Training Award
- Nicole Paredes Vegas
The award provides opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to undertake a short-term research training internship at a Canadian host institution.
ACS Undergraduate Award in Analytical Chemistry
- Freesia Vettier
Each year, the Analytical Division of Chemistry and Biochemistry of the American Chemical Society selects an undergraduate student who has excelled in the area of analytical chemistry and shows great potential as a future analytical chemist.
NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award
- Negin N.
The NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award is awarded to nurture interest and fully develop the potential for a research career in the natural sciences and engineering. They are also meant to encourage graduate studies in these fields.
CUSRA Undergraduate Student Research Award
- Seyedehgin Nabavi
- William Douglas
- Pariya Yousefi
- Rami Antoun
The goal of the CUSRA awards is to stimulate interest in research, participatory research, or research-creation work that will complement undergraduate coursework and enhance preparation for graduate studies or research-related careers.

- Jason Covone: SCI-CIC Graduating Student Merit Award in Biochemistry
- Weijie Tan: SCI-CIC Graduating Student Merit Award in Chemistry

Most awards for outstanding achievements in a given academic year are determined by a departmental committee based on merit. You are included automatically if you are a Chemistry and Biochemistry student. However, there are a number of awards that you can apply for.
