ABOUT US

The integrated BIOFINS platform concentrates key technologies into a single resource and consolidates a powerful array of specialized technologies for (bio)molecular analysis of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids, cells and viruses.

BIOFINS instrumentation is also used in the study of nanomaterials and polymers which have applications as organic semiconductors and drug delivery vehicles and in understanding supramolecular packing.

Our instruments include:

  • UV-visible spectrophotometers
  • fluorimeter (steady-state measurements)
  • circular dichroism spectropolarimeters
  • Fourier transform infrared spectrometer
  • preparative and analytical ultracentrifuges
  • isothermal titration calorimeter
  • equilibrium dialyzer
  • dynamic light scattering instrument

We also house facilities for culturing cells, preparing cell-free extracts and isolating organelles.

BIOFINS was established as a Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry Platform in 2009 with support from FRQNT Regroupement Stratégique PROTEO and Concordia University.

This facility is supported by the Office of the VP Research & Graduate Studies.

Our mission

The mission of BIOFINS is to enhance the awareness and accessibility of these instruments in the regional life sciences research community and to make them available for training purposes.

We aim to facilitate leading-edge, high-impact research in a productive and cost-effective manner.
