Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Facility

The Department maintains and operates three solution nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometers.

We offer NMR services to both internal and external users including most of the routine experiments:

  • 1D NMR: 1H/13C/31P/19F/15N, solvent suppression, 13C-spectra editing: DEPT/APT
  • 2D homonuclear NMR: COSY/TOCSY/ NOESY/ROESY
  • 2D heteronuclear NMR: HSQC/HMQC/HMBC.
  • Variable temperature control: -80 to +130 °C

About our services

While students, postdoctoral fellows and other reseachers at Concordia are encouraged to learn how to operate the spectrometers, the NMR facility service provides confidential and fast service for external users including:

  • Routinely providing spectra of liquids on all our available spectrometers.
  • Offering advice on the best methods of analyses or on the use of a specific technique.

A service charge will be applied for each use of the NMR facility service, which includes use of the spectrometer or training.

Schedule your experiment

  • Long-term experiments (longer than 1 hour) on Varian 500 MHz should be run during the evening (after 6 p.m.), overnight or on the weekend.
  • If you still need to run your long experiment during the day (2D NMR, kinetics, etc.) or would like to reserve overnight/weekend time, please write your time request in the booking sheet on the NMR facility door (SP S185.01) or contact constantin.yannopoulos@concordia.ca with your reservation request details.

Rates

Peak rate is effective between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm from Monday to Friday, but all rates are negotiable for external (non-Concordia) users.

Reservation hours Concordia users
Peak rate (500 MHz) $5.00/hr
