BLACK GRADUATION

About Black Grad

On June 17, 2023, Concordia University, the NouLa Centre for Black Students, The Black Perspectives Office and the Black Alumni Network will be hosting its annual Black Graduation Celebration!

The Black Student Graduation Celebration is a moment to recognize and celebrate Concordia’s Black graduates for their hard work, contributions and achievements, and to usher them into a strong network of fellow graduates, faculty, staff and alumni.

The celebration is also a moment to pay homage to the many generations of Black Concordia graduates who have paved the way.

The ceremony takes place each year in mid June, falling closest to June 19, also known as Juneteenth, which celebrates the freedom of enslaved Black peoples in the United States at the end of the civil war. For 158 years, Juneteenth has been observed and celebrated across the United States by African American peoples and recognized worldwide by African diaspora.

The ceremony does not replace the spring convocation. You may consult Concordia's Spring 2023 convocation page to apply for graduation.

When you register as a Black Graduate, you are added to the NouLa Centre ceremony's guestlist and Black Graduation communications mailing list : you will be notified once the Black Grad Ceremony tickets become available, when the submission for your grad pictures and remarks opens and more. However, your ticket for the ceremony will not be secured upon registration as a Black Graduate. You are still required to register and secure a ticket for yourself and for your guests once tickets are made available.

Each Graduate will be able to invite two guests.

If you are unable to attend the physical ceremony on June 17th, you can still attend the live feed of the ceremony on Zoom by selecting virtual tickets. You may also share the Zoom link with any of your friends and family that would like to attend virtually.
