Meet Taya Ismail

Hi! My name is Taya! I'm from Montreal and recently completed my exchange in Utrecht doing a minor in Media Psychology. When I'm not working on school projects I'm planning game nights with friends, reading from an endless pile of books, and sorting through too many hobbies.

A tip I would give students applying for exchange is…

Know your visa options. Keep track of your spending, subscriptions, and accounts. Learn the basics of your country's language if not for emergency then to make friends with locals! This will also be beneficial for the above subscription information.

The one thing I wished I would have known before going on exchange s…

To have given myself more grace. There will be an adjustment period. Getting your bearings may be messy at times no matter how much you prepare in advance. Take a breath, take stock, and keep going.

My favourite part of going on exchange was…

The freedom! There's so much to do and the world's your oyster. Discovering your city, county (and the neighbouring ones) is a true highlight of any exchange program. That and the people you meet along the way to make those discoveries with!
