Understand the roots of hatred and create your own counternarrative

 

Concordia University’s Interdisciplinary Summer Institute (CUISI) 2018 offers an intensive week-long (3-credit) seminar for professionals and advanced graduate students. Institute leaders will guide students in developing sustainable means for countering, preventing and combating online hate speech.

The objectives of the Institute are as follows:

  1. Engage with interdisciplinary experts about the multifaceted nature of hate, hate speech and pluralism, especially as it pertains to multimedia in the post web-2.0 digital landscape.
  2. Use rigorously developed analytical tools to identify hate speech in online fora, and design applications that promote inclusivity and pluralism.
  3. Co-create - alongside musicians, visual artists and research-creation specialists - counter-narratives to hateful ideologies.
  4. Use the analytical and creative methods learned in the creation of a unique Landscape of Hate multimedia and performance event.
