Visiting the Loyola Chapel

We provide an inclusive multi-purpose space that groups can book for social engagement, retreats, meetings, art shows, concerts, theatre productions, wellness programs, prayer, meditation, yoga, reflection, weddings and memorials.

When not in use, the chapel is available for study, relaxation, socialization, meditation or prayer.  Meditation cushions and mats are available. We also have a piano and organ that can be used by students and organists.

History of the Loyola Chapel

The Loyola Chapel, in the F.C. Smith Building, dates back to 1933. When Loyola College graduate Father Francis C. Smith took his final vows of poverty within the Jesuit Order, a portion of his family inheritance went towards the construction of the chapel.

Since the creation of Concordia University in 1974 with the merger of Loyola College and Sir George Williams University, the chapel has been an ecumenical place of worship and the site of many different religious services and events. A revitalization process to further explore the breadth of groups and activities the Chapel can support as a sacred space happened in 2009.
