Dr. Haghighat's current research focuses on the fundamental of heat and mass transport and its applications in in building and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems as well as the development of novel computational techniques for building thermal, airflow, and contaminants analysis, and design of sustainable and immune buildings. He is currently involved in numerous research projects that explore topics such as indoor environment, ventilation, filtration, high-performance green buildings, thermal storage, urban ventilation and outdoor environment, and GHG.

Dr. Haghighat is an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Building and Environment, and a member of the Editor Board of several international scientific journals. He was also the Honorary Theme Editor for the Theme 1.32 – Technology, Information, and Systems Management of UNESCO to develop an encyclopedia of Life Support Systems (ELOSS)
