Artist bios and statements are often the first thing a reviewer reads in an application. This workshop will help you understand the purpose of these texts, and how to communicate your work clearly and confidently. We’ll go over tone, format, and content and review examples to help you craft texts that speak to your unique perspective and experience.

This workshop is open to recent alumni who have graduated within the last five years from Concordia University’s Faculty of Fine Arts. Places are limited and will be assigned on a first come, first served basis.

Are you an artist or curator looking to apply for residencies and secure funding for your projects? Join us for an interactive Q&A designed to help you navigate the often-complex world of residency applications and funding opportunities in Canada and internationally. This workshop will provide essential insight into application processes, funding bodies, and strategies for crafting successful proposals specifically aimed at residency opportunities.
Whether you’re new to applying for residencies or looking to refine your skills, this session will offer practical advice and answers to your most pressing questions. We’ll discuss key funding sources, eligibility criteria, and common challenges faced by artists in residence. Important factors to consider when applying include the impact on your work, whether projects are self-funded or paid opportunities, the time commitments involved, as well as budgeting and resources available.
Participants will also learn about valuable resources and tools to help them manage and track their residency and funding applications effectively. Bring your questions and ideas, and leave equipped with the knowledge and confidence to pursue residency opportunities and funding for your creative practice.

This workshop is open to recent alumni who have graduated from Concordia University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, within the last five years.

The goal of this workshop is to clarify the contents and structure of a grant application, and offer guidance with regards to the grant writing process. Participants will learn how to propose projects that are clear in focus and consistent with their vision. We will also examine strategies for putting together a clear, concise and professional application.

As you plan for the next 5-10 years, your financial goals may grow. In this workshop, we’ll explore essential financial tools, including credit options (credit cards, lines of credit, mortgages), incorporation, investment accounts (RRSP, TFSA), and insurance (life, disability, critical illness). We'll talk about the basics of how they work and when you might want to use them with a specific focus on those of you who plan on being self-employed.

This workshop will walk you through the elements of a balanced budget, eligible expenses, standard fee rates, and common pitfalls. Participants will work through examples and build confidence in creating budgets that support their project goals.
