About Céline Bureau

Céline Bureau is an artist-run residency that responds to the needs of emerging and re-emerging artists in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal. The residency support artists engaging in non-traditional and experimental work through critical discourse, peer learning, members programming, exhibitions, and communal residencies.

Céline Bureau’s studio residency brings together a multidisciplinary group of emerging artists each spring and summer for a period of three months. The residency is centered around a series of critiques with peers and guests that support artists in developing their projects from proposal to public presentation.

Through its residencies, Céline Bureau creates spaces for peer learning, relationship building, and artistic development. It provides residents with production support through funding, critiques, space, and tools, as well as professionalization support through its exhibition space, workshops, and broad network. Residents are asked what they need, and strategies are built to meet those needs. Céline Bureau makes it more feasible for artists to stay in Montreal through continued support for past residents, including a year-long membership and, where possible, invitations to other opportunities.

If you have any questions about the application process or need specific accommodations to help you succeed in applying, please get in touch with artvolt@concordia.ca.

Program Overview

The Curatorial Resident’s chief objective is to curate the residency’s group exhibition, bringing together the works produced by Céline Bureau’s six artists in residence for its upcoming season. Working within a curatorial theme proposed by Céline Bureau—while also taking the resident’s own interests into account—the resident will research and develop the exhibition’s framework and write a curatorial text to be published in the annual publication produced alongside Céline Bureau’s writing residency.

The Curatorial Resident will be expected to engage directly with artists through regular critiques, held from June to August 2026, and to shape an exhibition that emerges from those exchanges. While the bulk of the curatorial residency will take place in spring and summer, the Curatorial Resident will also have the chance to participate in the life of the organization, by having the option to attend the summer writing workshops that support Céline Bureau’s writers in residence, participating in the residencies juries and programming committee, and benefiting from a one-year membership with access to Céline Bureau’s members’ offerings.

The Curatorial Resident will be supported by Céline Bureau’s Co-directors, who will provide assistance and guidance with concept development, project management, and administrative support. The exhibition will take place at the end of August 2026.

The selected candidate will receive an honorarium of $2000 for their participation in the program, as well as a $1000 production budget to support the final exhibition project.
