Les Ateliers de la pierre Residency

We are pleased to announce the Les Ateliers de la pierre Residency, presented in collaboration with Les Ateliers de la pierre du Québec. This two-month residency aims to support an emerging artist in the exploration of stone carving and the creation of a new sculptural project.

Les Ateliers de la pierre du Québec is a non-profit organization dedicated to the development, transmission, and vitality of sculptural and craft practices related to stonework. Located in the Lachine Canal Complex, the workshop is equipped with twelve stone carving stations and provides artists and craftspeople with access to safe workspaces, specialized equipment, and professional technical support. Les Ateliers de la pierre is a place for experimentation, learning, and exchange between diverse artistic and cultural communities.

Recognizing the challenges that recent graduates face in accessing specialized equipment and studio space, this residency is designed to support an artist in the early stages of their career by providing mentorship, technical training, and the opportunity to develop a personal project in stone. No prior experience in stone carving is required.

If you have any questions about the application process or need specific accommodations to help you succeed in applying, please contact Art Volt at artvolt@concordia.ca.

Application criteria

Applicants must be registered for graduation or have graduated from Concordia University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, within the last three years.

Alumni interested in applying, are invited to join an information session on Tuesday, July 14th, 2026 at 12 PM. Applicants will be able to ask questions, as well as discuss their project proposal with Art Volt. To join the information session please request a zoom link with artvolt@concordia.ca

Projects will be selected based on artistic merit, feasibility, and the scope and clarity of the project proposal. Particular attention will be given to the applicant’s interest in sculpture and the potential impact of the residency on the development of their artistic practice.

No previous experience in stone carving is required. However, applicants with an existing sculpture practice will be given priority consideration. We recommend that applicants propose a project using a relatively soft stone, such as soapstone, alabaster, or soft limestone, with a maximum size of approximately 30 × 30 × 30 cm.
