Drought and Water Shortage in Iran

Posted on July 29, 2025

The current drought in Iran has reached a critical level, threatening the water supply of millions and highlighting the severity of the country’s water management challenges. Exacerbated by climate change and poor planning, the situation raises serious humanitarian and environmental concerns. The crisis has been widely covered by the media.

Ali Nazemi, professor in the Department of Building, Civil and Environmental Engineering at Concordia University, is a recognized expert on this issue. His research focuses, among other things, on groundwater depletion in Iran—a key factor in the current crisis. He is available for comment and analysis.
