The Spring–Summer 2025 edition of the Learning Toolkit+ (LTK+) newsletter is now available, showcasing new research and field updates from global education projects led by CSLP member Philip Abrami. These initiatives—funded under a SSHRC Partnership grant—highlight the reach and adaptability of LTK+ tools in diverse international contexts.
Among this issue’s features:
Nepal Literacy Pilot
In collaboration with Tribhuvan University (Nepal) and the Open University (UK), the LTK+ team launched a pilot project in Kathmandu integrating ABRACADABRA and READS into Grade 1 classrooms. The project included adapted teacher training, localized classroom resources, and follow-up support. Early findings suggest improved teacher engagement, increased student attendance, and measurable literacy gains.
Mombasa Longitudinal Study: Early Numeracy Gains
The team also reports on a long-term study in Kenya using ELM (Early Learning in Mathematics). Results show that teachers using the software spent more time on complex math concepts, adopted more student-centered practices, and saw improved student test scores—underscoring ELM’s promise as a sustainable and scalable solution aligned with Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum.
New Video Release
The editors spotlight their new video, The Role of the Learning Sciences in Tackling the Learning Crisis, now available on YouTube. The video explores how learning sciences can help address educational disparities around the world.
Furthering Impact in Kenya
The LTK+ team also received a GPE-KIX “Furthering Impact” grant to extend their previous literacy work in Kenya. Collaborating with local education authorities, they trained curriculum officers and ICT technicians to support teachers beyond the life of the original initiative. Data from these efforts is now being analyzed to better understand how to sustain educational innovation in classrooms over time.
