Funding Opportunities for graduate students in research programs within the social sciences, arts and humanities (SSHRC/FRQSC) (GradProSkills workshop)

This workshop is intended for current or future students in research-based graduate programs, who are preparing a fall scholarship application to a federal or provincial government research agency.

Research proposals vary tremendously between departments, research areas, and individuals, but there are also standard ways to present this material for each agency and scholarship program. Most fundamentally, this requires that all applicants read the program instructions carefully for the drafts they are creating. In this workshop, you will learn how to understand the main elements of an application and their relevance, write a successful application, and make your proposal stand out among your peers.

Learning objectives

After attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

• Identify the key elements that are required within a research proposal, for a certain funding program under SSHRC/FRQSC.
• Format your proposal in such a way to highlight each of these essential items.
• Draft a preliminary research proposal and send it out for appropriate peer-review and feedback.

Leaders information

This workshop is led by Cecilia Kramar, Fellowship Advisor for the School of Graduate Studies. Cecilia holds a PhD in neuroscience, has successfully mentored numerous graduate students with their funding applications, and has extensive knowledge of international and local funding programs.
