The talk will discuss what a digital behaviour change intervention (DBCI) is, explore some of the key challenges of incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) into DBCIs; and describe some elements that need to be considered to create sustainable DBCIs.

About the speaker:

Dr. Simon Bacon is a behavioural scientist who is interested in understanding why people do what they do and then using this information to develop tailored interventions to help positively change high-risk behaviours. The work that he does is multidisciplinary and intersectoral, requiring the engagement of a number of different collaborators and partners, and utilizes a variety of mixed-methodologies, including epidemiological, psychophysiological, evidence syntheses, qualitative, and behavioural trials designs. Dr. Bacon is the FRQS co-Chair in Artificial Intelligence and Digital Health for Health Behaviour Change as well as the co-director of the Montreal Behavioural Medicine Centre (www.mbmc-cmcm.ca).

About the AI and Aging event series:

As AI becomes an ever-present part of our lives and media systems we are left with questions on how we age alongside this technology. A history of critical gerontechnology tells us of the roles of ageism within technology, and this working group examines how similar arguments apply (or differ) to emerging AI tools. The goal is to dispel myths and presuppositions to foster interdisciplinary research that is more than a bringing together of disciplines. Together these rapid research talks provide space to explore how aging and AI intersect in various domains so we can create meaningful research responses.

This event is hybrid, in-person at engAGE Centre for Research on Aging and online. Please email Eric at engage@concordia.ca if you would like the online meeting link.
