About the speakers

Dr. Raj Panjabi is a global health leader, physician and author who served as Senior Director for Global Health Security and Biodefense at the White House National Security Council from 2022 to 2023. He co-led the U.S. response to COVID-19 vaccination and other public health crises, including mpox, influenza and Ebola.

A co-founder and former CEO of Last Mile Health, Panjabi has helped expand access to care by training community health workers in communities beyond the reach of formal health systems. He has been named one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in the World and TIME’s 50 Most Influential People in Healthcare. His honours include the TED Prize and Clinton Global Citizen Award. His first book, Safer, explores how we can prepare for a more uncertain world.

Nahlah Ayed is the host of CBC’s Ideas, the nightly radio program exploring the people and ideas shaping our world. A veteran foreign correspondent, she spent nearly a decade reporting from London and another decade covering upheaval across the Middle East. She was previously a parliamentary reporter for The Canadian Press and has received numerous journalism awards, including the 2025 Edward R. Murrow Award.
