Dr. Madhur Anand, ecology professor at the University of Guelph, poet, and member of the QCBS Scientific Advisory Board will present an overview of her writing and leadership at the interface of art and environmental science via the University of Guelph’s “Collaboratory.”
Afterwards, there will be an opportunity for the community and public to be in conversation with Anand and each other about how to foster more exchanges between creative writing and the environmental sciences.
Come with your curiosity, questions and passions. Dr. Anand will present in English, but the conversations afterwards will be in both English and French. Event will be moderated by QCBS member Dr. Carly Ziter.

Madhur Anand's debut book of creative non-fiction This Red Line Goes Straight to Your Heart (2020) won the Governor General's Literary Award for Nonfiction. Her debut collection of poems A New Index for Predicting Catastrophes (2015) was a finalist for the Trillium Book Award for Poetry and named one of 10 all-time "trailblazing" poetry collections by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Her second collection of poems Parasitic Oscillations (2022) was also a finalist for the Trillium Book Award for Poetry and named a Globe and Mail Top 100 Book. To Place a Rabbit, her first novel was also named a Globe and Mail Top 100 Book. Anand is a professor and the director of the Global Ecological Change and Sustainability Laboratory at the University of Guelph, Ontario.
Carly leads the Ziter Urban Landscape Ecology Lab. With her students, she uses field observations, environmental sensors, and participatory and arts-based methodologies to explore how the ways we build our cities influences biodiversity, wellbeing, and human-nature relationships. Work in the lab is done in collaboration with landowners, community groups, and local through federal governments. Carly believes strongly in science communication as an integral part of the scientific process, and has won Concordia’s research communicator of the year award at the local, national, and international levels.
