Women Leading Sustainability

Join us for a screening of a three-part video interview series featuring three BIPOC women-owned small businesses in Montreal that prioritize sustainability in their work and projects. Following the 30-minute screening, we’ll have a Q&A with the featured women hosted by the director of photography. The series celebrates local entrepreneurs, highlights sustainable business practices, and encourages more environmentally conscious choices.

Ahana B. Murumbi

Ahana B. Murumbi is a Congolese-Canadian writer, director, and producer based in Montreal. Through AYORHA Productions, she creates intimate, character-driven films exploring displacement, identity, resilience, and the human condition. Her work has earned international recognition, with her short documentary A Girl Named Abigaël (2024) named a Best Social Awareness finalist in South Africa and nominated for Best First-Time Filmmaker at Venice Shorts in Los Angeles. In 2025, she was selected as one of 17 filmmakers for Telefilm Canada’s Talent to Watch program to develop her debut feature documentary, The Shadows of the Metropolis, which has received support from Telefilm Canada and the Canada Council for the Arts.

Eva Kyne

Eva Kyne is a Canadian filmmaker, editor, and Concordia University alumna in Communications. Since 2022, she has led communications and event management at CEED Concordia, supporting the organization’s programming, outreach, and community initiatives. Her work has included teaching video production workshops to students in Uganda and, since2024, managing the CEED Concordia office and monthly markets that support BIPOC entrepreneurs.

Kiana Picanco

Kiana Picanco is a Montreal-based filmmaker and cinematographer whose work explores women and representation through visual storytelling. She holds a Bachelor’s degree with a Specialization in Communication Studies and a Minor in Film Studies from Concordia University, where she also recently completed her Master of Fine Arts in Cinematic Arts. Her work spans cinematography, editing, and scriptwriting, with a particular interest in creating complex and dynamic female characters. Her MFA research-creation project focused on plus-size representation in cinema and resulted primarily in a short horror film. She hopes to continue developing stories that challenge stereotypes surrounding women in film, particularly the representation of plus-size women.

Clara Olivia Levesque

Clara Olivia Levesque (elle/she/her) is a multidisciplinary Indian-Québécois artist working from an ecofeminist lens. She mainly illustrates figurative nymphs and incorporates them with fauna and flora to draw parallels on how interconnected we are and encourage sustainable practices with the land and between human beings. She graduated in 2025 from Concordia in Psychology and is now pursuing her studies in Art Therapy at UQAT. She is an artist that creates her artworks on her own upcycled chai paper and has recently started making her own frames using sustainable practices. She is also a vocal advocate on gender-based violence and uses her artmaking to foster discussion and meaningful change on how creative practice, intersectional and trauma-informed feminism, sustainability, gender advocacy and social justice all intersect.
