LEADS is Leadership in Environmental and Digital innovation for Sustainability (LEADS) is an NSERC-CREATE graduate program on the theme of science leadership for global sustainability in the digital age.

The program brought together graduate-level students interested in developing the skills, knowledge & experience in sustainability science and digital innovation to accelerate transformations to a more sustainable & equitable global society. Students came from Concordia University, McGill University, Université de Montréal or Université du Québec à Montréal. They had the opportunity to participate in internships with Future Earth and to work on Canadian-led and international global sustainability projects.

For the final closing event of the program, this event is bringing this year's cohort together for a series of conversations, panels, poster sessions and more.

Please Register if you wish to attend in person!

10:00 AM  Sustainability Leadership in a Polarised World
Workshop led by Nilufar Sabet-Kassouf

In this workshop, we will explore the nuances of polarization and how they manifest in climate and sustainability discourse. Elements from past LEADS workshops -- meaningful engagement, values-based work, deep listening -- will be woven into our exploration.

1:30 PM  Agents in the Field: Agentic AI for Climate Science and Ecology
With Genevieve Patterson

Agentic AI systems can now plan, write, and execute scientific workflows with limited human intervention. This talk shows how familiar tasks for ecologists, biologists, and climate scientists can be reframed as modular, agent-driven pipelines. I demonstrate recently popular approaches to ecological case studies from my own work, including macaque behavior tracking and green crab molting detection. The focus is on practical capabilities, limitations, and how to keep these systems scientifically reliable.

2:30 PM The Growing Place of AI in Our World: Environmental, Ethical and Social Considerations
A Panel discussion

A panel conversation about the environmental, ethical and societal implications of AI and its growing influence in our society.

3:30 PM  Poster Session

Continued poster engagement and discussion

An opportunity to engage with LEADS trainees and explore ongoing projects during the poster session.

4:30 PM  Closing Reception

How can you participate? Join us in person or online by registering for the Zoom Meeting or watching live on YouTube.
