Naj Sumar Educational Developer, Inclusive Pedagogy, Centre for Teaching and Learning and Aisha Topsakal, Director, Office of Rights and Responsibilities
Our classrooms are increasingly reflections of the complex and challenging landscape we are seeing locally and globally. It is important for educators to feel empowered and equipped to handle the difficult conversations and behaviours that arise from these new realities. This workshop will draw on inclusive pedagogy and social justice education to provide participants with practical tools and methods to use in their classrooms. Together, we will explore strategies for navigating conflict, addressing challenging topics, and responding to disruptive behaviours. Participants will have the opportunity to practice using these tools, and ultimately reflect on their own approach to classroom management.
By the end of this workshop, attendees will be able to:
Practice the use of various tools for classroom management
Identify characteristics of challenging classrooms according to the HOT Moments framework
Reflect on their personal teaching practice
Audience: Concordia faculty, teaching staff, and TAs (grad students with teaching roles)
