Join us for a thoughtful conversation with Urmi Hossain, BComm 16, who will explore identity and belonging and how our cultures, experiences and communities shape our sense of self.
In this session, we’ll explore:
- How our cultures, backgrounds, languages and experiences influence our identity
- The difference between ‘fitting in and belonging’, and why the two are not always the same
- What it means to navigate different parts of your identity across cultures and environments
- The challenges of finding a sense of belonging when you are new to a country, community, or environment
- How we can embrace the different parts of who we are without feeling the need to choose between them
Through personal stories, reflection, and conversation, this session will invite participants to think about their own identities, where they feel they belong, and what belonging truly means to them.
Urmi Hossain, CFA, CAIA, is a finance professional, self-published author, speaker, and advocate for women’s empowerment.
With experience in finance, compliance, and investment management, she combines her professional expertise with a strong passion for leadership, personal growth, and creating opportunities for others.
Beyond her career in finance, Urmi is an active public speaker and is regularly involved in university events, where she shares her experiences and insights on topics including career development, identity, belonging, leadership, and the transition from university to the professional world. She is also passionate about creating opportunities for students and young professionals, including planning initiatives and events that raise awareness around women in leadership.
Urmi serves as Co-Chair of Women in Leadership Montreal and is actively involved in mentoring and supporting women through organizations such as Dress for Success. She is also a Brand Ambassador for EmpowerEm, supporting its mission to empower and inspire women.
