Please note that attendance is in adherence to Chatham Rules to encourage open discussions. Diligent notes will be collected to capture key insights and questions raised during the event. Your valuable input will play a pivotal role in shaping our future endeavors. We eagerly anticipate your participation in shaping the future of cellular agriculture in Canada.

Importance of Research Ecosystem in Cellular Agriculture

The research ecosystem of cellular agriculture plays a pivotal role in propelling the advancement of this field in Canada. By fostering a collaborative environment that integrates expertise from various disciplines, such as biology, engineering, and food science, Canada can position itself as a leader in sustainable and ethical food production.

Investments in research infrastructure, academic partnerships, and industry collaboration are crucial for driving innovation and accelerating the development of cell-based food technologies. Moreover, a robust research ecosystem not only facilitates knowledge exchange and talent retention but also addresses key challenges such as scalability, regulatory approvals, and consumer acceptance.

As Canada strives to meet the growing international demand for various food sources while addressing current concerns associated with conventional agriculture and food chains, a strong emphasis on building and nurturing the research ecosystem in cellular agriculture is paramount. Through collective efforts and the adoption of novel models to promote open science Canada can unlock the full potential of its academic institutions and contribute to a more resilient and sustainable food system for future generations.

Join us as we explore the transformative power of research in shaping the future using transparent knowledge transfer and sharing discoveries within these new food production opportunities, in Canada and beyond.

About the series

New Harvest, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and District 3 Innovation Centre have joined forces to organize a series of virtual events aimed at fostering research and collaboration within the realm of cellular agriculture. The overarching objective of this event series is twofold: to provide a platform for disseminating valuable information and to facilitate the building of meaningful connections among key players in the field. By bringing together experts, innovators, and diverse stakeholders, we aim to kickstart deeper conversations that will contribute to the advancement of knowledge, innovation, and collaboration in cellular agriculture. Through these events, we aspire to create a dynamic and inclusive space where participants can engage in informative discussions, forge new connections, and collectively shape the future of cellular agriculture.

New Harvest: New Harvest Canada is a field-building nonprofit organization dedicated to reimagining how we make agricultural products—using cells instead of whole animals or plants. We fund and conduct original research to guide the development and governance of a cellular agriculture ecosystem toward realizing its promise of creating a new, just food system for a climate-changed world.

AAFC: Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada supports the Canadian agriculture and agri-food sector through initiatives that promote innovation and competitiveness.

D3 Innovation Hub: District 3 Innovation Centre is a vibrant hub for entrepreneurship and innovation, fostering the growth of startups and supporting the development of cutting-edge ideas in various industries. Based at Concordia University, Montreal, Quebec and with a focus on collaboration, District 3 empowers entrepreneurs to transform their vision into reality through mentorship, resources, and a dynamic ecosystem.
