Te Hiku Media’s Papa Reo digital platform will enable smaller Indigenous language communities to develop their own speech recognition and natural language processing capabilities, ensuring that the sovereignty of the data remains with them, and the benefits derived from these technologies goes directly to their communities.

First Language AI Reality (FLAIR) is inspired by Te Hiku Media’s leadership in AI and is working to address language loss in North America. Nearly 50% of the world’s Indigenous and about 90% of North American languages are endangered, according to UNESCO. To stem this loss, Indigenous communities need a game-changing approach to language education. The First Languages AI Reality (FLAIR) initiative was created to enable the next chapter in Indigenous language reclamation thanks to the use of advanced immersive AI technology.
