A student seminar organized by GAMMAS, Denys Svetelik will talk about the Tompson groups T, F ,V, which are the groups of piecewise linear homeomorphisms of the unit interval, circle and Cantor set with the action being the composition of function. Composing such function is generally hard, however we can solve the issue by representing function from the groups by pairs of binary trees and them composing pairs of trees, which turns out to purely combinatoric and visual.

This event is open to any graduate student in the math department.
