The seminar explores how Guatemalan institutions develop and use climate services to support adaptation to climate change and improve food security among small farmers and Maya communities.

The presentation is structured around three key stages in the development and delivery of climate services:

  • The production climate data
  • The translation of the data into agrometerological advice, known as agroclimatic bulletins
  • The transfer of the bulletins to the intended users

These instances are examined using a triangulation of methods that include archival work of governmental reports and policies, semi-structured interviews with key participants and participatory approach in forums and local technical agroclimatic committees.

Taking into account Guatemala's social and historical context, the seminar will review the challenges, limitations and unintended side-effect that climate services have in Guatemala.
