If there was an international capital of mixed martial arts (MMA), Montreal would be among the top contenders. Tristar Gym, considered one of the best MMA gyms in the world, put Montreal on the map in the world of professional fighting.

Countless Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighters train at Tristar alongside UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. The man behind the gym’s success is Firas Zahabi, who is a grad from Concordia’s Department of Philosophy.

In this video, student reporter George Menexis, from Concordia’s Department of Journalism, teams up with videographer and alumna Rachel Lau for a behind-the-scenes look at Tristar Gym. Menexis even hits the mat to introduce MMA mastermind Zahabi.
