Feminismo y literatura en Argentina

Abstract. This talk will explore diverse instances of combination between literature and activist feminism in Argentina, from the poets of the 1920s to contemporary writers and artists involved in the struggle for a legal right to abortion and against femicide, passing through the magazines 'Feminaria' and 'Alfonsina' in the 1980s. The speaker will offer a panorama through a personal account that includes her own experiences as a writer, literary critic and activist in Argentina.

Florencia Abbate is an Argentina writer and researcher at the CONICET (Consejo National de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas). She holds a doctorate in literature from the Universidad de Buenos Aires, and is currently a Professor of Philosophy of Gender at the Universidad de Ciencias Empresariales y Sociales. She has been an invited lecturer on Latin American literature at Dartmouth College. She was also the director of the Program of ‘Global South’ Studies at the Universidad Nacional de General San Martín and consultant of The National Library of Argentina. She was one of the founders of the influential ‘Ni Una Menos’ movement in Argentina, and currently is part of ‘Nosotras Proponemos’ a feminist collective of writers and visual artists. Her last books are Biblioteca Feminista (Essay, Planeta 2020) and Felices hasta que amanezca (Short Stories, Emecé, 2017). She previously published El grito and Magic resort, among other books.
