Sarah Boukendour

Sarah is completing degrees in Philosophy and Linguistics, and will be working under the supervision of Professor Alan Bale on the following project:

Imprecision and fractions: how language influences mathematical concepts

This project will explore basic conceptual representations of proportional magnitudes and fractions as they relate to the compositional structure of language. The project will help build a complete picture of how we use language to express quantities and communicate measurements. The results of the project will not only be useful for linguistic theory, but could also provide insight into how linguistic expressions help or hinder our ability to learn mathematical concepts.
