Internal funding

An individual or a group of researchers can apply for internal funding. Our internal funding programs are designed to complement and leverage external funding opportunities.

For funding programs managed by the Office of Research, please note that your Faculty will have an earlier internal deadline and other requirements for submission besides those listed below. Faculties may have other funding programs as well.

Mobilizing Knowledge Competitions

Aid to Research-Related Events

This program seeks to stimulate the exchange and transfer of knowledge and support visibility and outreach initiatives such as workshops, conferences, lectures, visiting scholars/artists, publications and exhibitions.

There are two competitions per year (fall/spring).

Award details: 

  • Up to $5,000.
  • In special cases when properly justified, a higher amount may be considered.
  • Matching funds (1:1) are required.

Facility Optimization Program 

This program provides funding to upgrade existing research infrastructure and acquire new complementary equipment, components, software, etc. to an existing platform/lab. Upgrading existing equipment and systems will be given priority over new purchases. 

Award details:

  • Up to $20,000 
  • Matching funds (1:1) are required

Sustainable Transitions Team Research Initiative 

This initiative supports the early-stage development of interdisciplinary research, research-creation and creation teams focused on addressing a sustainability challenge related to one or more of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 

Award details:

  • Up to $20,000

  • March 4, 2024 

Internal awards

Petro-Canada Young Innovator Award 

This award recognizes, promotes and supports outstanding and innovative emerging researchers whose work contributes significantly to Concordia’s training environment and has an impact on society. This annual award, made possible by Suncor Energy’s generous endowment to Concordia, is intended to articulate Suncor Energy and Concordia’s commitment to researchers at the launch of their careers and enable them to carry their research forward. 

Award details:

  • Two (2) awards of $10,000 each 

Deadline:

  • April 19, 2024

Research Impact Awards 

These awards honor the diverse ways in which research and research-creation contribute to academic and scientific impact, society, culture, policy and innovation. 

Award details:

  • Up to five awards of $5,000 each
