Entrance

Webster Library

The Library Building (LB) has multiple street-level doors exiting onto different roads. 

There are elevators from the atrium, the parking lot level, and the metro level.

There are automatic doors to enter from street level (Mackay St., Bishop St., De Maisonneuve Blvd.)

Vanier Library

There are automatic doors on the exterior door of the Vanier Library (VL) Building as well as the entrance to the Library.

Planned improvements

The entrance to the Vanier Library has push gates that could be challenging for users with impaired mobility. These gates will be removed in 2026–2027. 

Elevators

Webster Library

One elevator is needed to enter the Library from the street level, metro, or underground parking levels. There are two elevators for moving between floors within the Library. The elevators have braille buttons. There is an audible indicator of arrival on each floor.

Vanier Library

There is a set of doors in front of the elevator that does not have an automatic door opener. The elevator has an audible beep indicating arrival on each floor.

Doors

Webster Library

A range of seating areas are available in open areas of the Library. The Ireland Reading Room (LB-285) has an automatic door. The other reading rooms, group study rooms, and washrooms do not have automatic doors. 

Vanier Library

A range of seating areas are available in open areas of the Library. Vanier Library does not have any automatic doors for group study rooms, washrooms, and interior doors on staircase landings.

Wheelchair access

Webster & Vanier Libraries

Most spaces accommodate wheelchairs, including group study rooms and reading rooms (although there are no automatic doors), and the Course Reserves Room. Study tables and service desk stations are available at varying heights. For retrieval of material from shelves, it is recommended to request items for pickup.

Vanier Library

The compact shelving on the first floor can be expanded to accomodate a wheelchair.

Washrooms

Webster Library

Washrooms on all floors are equipped with accessible stalls. However, the rooms are gendered and not barrier free (lack of automatic doors). 

LB-1 (outside the Library) has accessible and gender-neutral washrooms.

Vanier Library

Washrooms on all floors are equipped with accessible stalls. However, the rooms are gendered and not barrier free (lack of automatic doors). The washrooms on VL-2 and VL-3 are by the staircase landings and separated from the study areas by doors.
