October 14th, 2020 –  9:30am to 12:30pm in French with Caroline Houde

This workshop will introduce participants to different concepts and strategies to help them become self-employed creative practitioners. Learn how to identify your audience, how to promote your message and practice and finally, how to get started!

Each participant will be asked to prepare a 2 minute presentation about their practice to introduce themselves and their work to the group. During the course of the workshop, these statements will be refined.

Intellectual Property and Copyright

October 16th, 2020 –  9:30am to 12:30pm in French with Bianca Pietracupa

This workshop will first discuss constitutional considerations on intellectual property and copyright in particular. A description of how it interacts with provincial artist status statutes will follow. The main concepts of copyright will be discussed in terms of creation, advantages, duration and ownership of these rights. The concept of moral rights and its importance will be described. The objective is to make visual artists aware of the different copyright rights specific to their artistic practice and to introduce the concept of collective management of these rights.

Financing an Artistic Project

October 15th, 2020 –  9:30am to 12:30pm in French with Pierre Beaudoin

During this workshop, participants will study the main types of financial support: grant programs coming from public funds, funding through private funds and the different ways to fund an artistic research or event. In each case, the trainer will present the various steps involved when preparing a request for financial support and the usual schedule for each one. Participants will also learn how these different forms of support can be complementary. Several tips and tricks will be given during this training which is provided by RAAV (regroupement des artist en art visuels du Québec).

Networking

October 9th, 2020 –  9:30am to 12:30pm in English with Kakim Goh
October 13th, 2020 –  9:30am to 12:30pm in French with Hugues Charbonneau

The workshop will define what networking is and its usefulness. It will also identify relevant networking opportunities in the field of visual arts, as well as good practices, both in-person and through platforms such as LinkedIn. Participants will also learn how to make a positive impact when meeting a new professional contact and how to present themselves in a short and effective way.

Grant Writing

October 28th, 2020 –  9:30am to 12:30pm in English with Amber Berson

Join us as we learn to navigate through the confusing world of grant-writing! This is an introductory information session, where Berson will be guiding us through the funding opportunities available via the various councils and funding bodies.

*Please note that the grants that will be discussed during the workshop are unfortunately only available to folks with Canadian citizenship. We welcome everyone to attend the workshop, however, as the skills covered can be transferred to other funding sources and models.
