REIMAGINING SKIN-CLUSIVE ART EDUCATION

This presentation outlines Eunkyung's research on inclusivity in art education. She presents her prior and current work on ableist assumptions in online art spaces and the stigmatization of women's scars in self-portraiture lessons. She also shares her future research plans for developing anti-ableist art curricula for schools and community settings.

Eunkyung Hwang (she/her) is an artist, educator, and dual Ph.D. candidate in Art Education and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Pennsylvania State University in the U.S. Eunkyung has extensive teaching experience across elementary schools, museums, and university classrooms. Her dissertation research delves into the stigmatization of women’s scars and gendered body normativity in self-portraiture lessons within school settings.
