What is the ISW?
The ISW is a 24-hour workshop cycle typically offered as a 3-day program aimed at providing instructors with a unique opportunity to develop their teaching effectiveness. The workshop uses a peer-based approach combining instructional materials, resource activities and experiential learning with the well known lesson plan framework model known as BOPPPS. The model of the ISW is one that focuses on a learner-centered approach allowing instructors to practice planning and delivering mini-lessons while receiving high quality formative feedback from a small group of peers, typically 4-5 other instructors also partipating in the workshop.
How the ISW works
The program generally invites 8-12 instructors to work together as part of the whole workshop program while dividing participants into two smaller groups of 4-6 for the planning and practice of mini-lessons. The facilitators share key instructional principles, information and resources while leading partipating instructors through activities intended to model the lesson plan framework, BOPPPS. The ISW focusses on highlighting lesson plan elements and activities aimed at promoting student-centered learning and is designed around a peer feedback process. The ISW also requires a basic level of preparation and homework to ensure opportunities to practice and implement feedback provided throughout the 3-day program.
