Course exemptions
$55 per course
You can request exemptions from a course within a program if you have already completed an equivalent course. Concordia Continuing Education recognizes the learning delivered in other postsecondary institutions, provided it complies with the criteria below:
- Certificate programs: a maximum of one course of up to 40 hours
- Diploma programs: 2-3 courses, up to a maximum of 60 course hours
- The course upon which your exemption request is based must be equivalent to or above the number of course hours of the current Concordia Continuing Education course.
- Candidates must provide an official academic transcript with a passing grade of 60% or higher.
- Candidates must provide proof of learning with a course syllabus containing a detailed curriculum.
Course content evolves over time. As a result, exemptions for courses completed in the past may not be granted after a certain period. Requests for exemptions must not exceed:
- 5 years for computer programming and technology programs (e.g. Python, SQL, AI, cybersecurity and data)
- 10 years for non-technical programs (e.g. business, HR, marketing, languages, etc.)
To request a course exemption, fill out the form below and email it to cce@concordia.ca. Courses approved for exemption based on previous academic experience will appear on the student transcript as such. Decisions on course exemptions based on academic learning are final. The processing time for exemption requests is 10 business days.
Course waivers
$35 per course
You may request a waiver for a required course within a program when you are confident that a prior academic experience matches the content of that course. Course waivers are at your own risk, since instructors will not necessarily cover material from the waived course in other courses.
Waived courses will not appear on your Concordia Continuing Education transcript. To receive a certificate or diploma after completing a program, you must ensure that your waived course has been approved by Concordia Continuing Education.
To request a course waiver, fill out the form below and submit it to cce@concordia.ca. Your request must include the completed Course Waiver Form, as well as proof of academic experience, in order to be considered. Decisions based on course waivers are final. The processing time for course waiver requests is 5 business days.
