Master's in Human Systems Intervention

One MA program, two exciting options
The Human Systems Intervention program at Concordia University prepares students to plan and implement whole system change processes.
Thesis option
Ideal for students with a strong academic background in human relations, organizational development, or working with communities, this option focuses on crafting a substantial research-based thesis, which is beneficial for those aiming for doctoral studies.
Project option
Students explore the theories behind various change approaches and gain intervention skills through experiential learning, culminating in the completion of a major fieldwork project.
Program-specific admission requirements
Supervision:
While you are not required to secure a supervisor when applying, we recommend that you review the list of faculty members' research interests and directly contact potential supervisors whose research work aligns with yours.
Letters of reference:
At least two of the three references should be academic in nature.
Research proposal (minimum two pages):
Using this research proposal template, your research proposal should include:
- a one to two paragraph literature review (a summary of the knowledge so far)
- a description of the nature and scope of the proposed research
- one to two potential supervisors
Interview:
Only if deemed necessary by the admission committee, selected applicants may be contacted by the program office for an interview.
Letters of reference:
References can be a mix of professional and academic; at least one of the three references should be academic.
Statement of purpose (approximately two pages):
The statement of purpose is a critical piece of your application. It should be well written, in your own style of expression. Be sure to touch upon the following points:
- What you know about this program and why you chose it.
- Your current work and work history as they relate to the program, including applicable skills.
- Your study activities as they relate to the program.
- Your aspirations for the next 5 years; the type of work you would like to be doing; the ideal setting or organization.
- Your learning style, your prior involvement with experience¬-based education, and your experience in working in groups.
- Any personal factors and qualities that are suited to this kind of professional work, and that you believe will support your goals of this graduate program.
Be sure to include what attracted you to this particular program; it’s an important factor in learning about you and your fit with the department.
Interview:
