Researcher, Quantitative Studies and Surveys in Migration

Location: Concordia University, Montreal, Canada (possibility of hybrid or remote work)
Hours per week: 28 to 35 hours, Monday to Friday, during office hours
Fixed-term unionized position: 3 years, subject to satisfactory performance. Possible extension beyond this period, based on availability of funds 
Hourly rate: 30,44$ à 52,68$, plus benefits

Description and context

The researcher will work under the direction of Mireille Paquet (Department of Political Science and Institute for Research on Immigration and Society) and her team to contribute to the completion of several projects within Canada First Research Excellence Fund: Migrant Integration in the Mid-21st Century: Bridging Divides

The researcher will contribute to the development and implementation of several survey projects as well as quantitative studies related to immigration, including a large-scale national study with different immigrant groups in Canada.

The researcher will be able to co-sign publications and reports, as well as maintain an independent research program.

This position can be performed on-site, in hybrid mode, or remotely. Specific arrangements will be established based on collaboration needs and presence required for certain key activities.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Conduct literature reviews (research, synthesis, and writing).
  • Contribute to the development of research plans (design, pre-testing, validation, etc.).
  • Prepare ethics applications and ensure the implementation of protocols related to all stages of research.
  • Contribute, with the team, to supervising research assistants related to the project.
  • Participate in the collection of primary quantitative data, as well as the preparation, cleaning, and transformation of this data.
  • Conduct, under the direction of the research team, quantitative data analyses using various techniques.
  • Write reports and prepare presentations on research results.
  • Contribute, with the research team, to knowledge transfer and mobilization activities related to the research.
  • Support the research team in preparing proposals, funding applications, and other related documents.

Job requirements

  • Master's or doctoral degree in social sciences (individuals in the process of obtaining their degree may apply).
  • Training or research experience related to migration and immigrant integration.
  • Documented experience in using various quantitative research methods in empirical research contexts.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) oral and written, with very high-level English writing skills.
  • As the position is based in Montreal, candidates must be legally authorized to work in Quebec.

  • Experience with self-training or upgrading in research methods.

 

Salary and benefits

Salary will be determined according to job-related training and experience. 

Salary range will be determined based on the AERC/CARE collective agreement.

The position includes a benefits package (health and dental plan, life insurance and sick leave, pension plan and long-term disability plan).

For candidates with a PhD, the position comes with the possibility of an affiliation with the University, enabling them to apply for funding as a principal investigator.
