About the podcast

Migrant Ethnographies is a podcast featuring conversations on migration, ethnography, and lived experience. Each episode is led by a graduate student host, under the guidance of Deniz Duruiz, in conversation with researchers, practitioners, or community members engaged in migration-related work.

Project team

Deniz Duruiz, Creator & Director

Deniz Duruiz is Assistant Professor in Sociology and Anthropology at Concordia University. Her work centers on migration, labor, and race through long-term ethnographic research with Kurdish migrant farmworkers and refugees from Bakur (Northern Kurdistan/Turkey) and Rojava (Western Kurdistan/Syria) in Turkey, France, and Canada. She is the director of Migrant Ethnographies Podcast.

Irmak Afşar, Research Assistant & Coordinator

Irmak Afşar is a research assistant for the Migrant Ethnographies project and an undergraduate student in Political Science at Concordia University. She works on podcast coordination, research development, and public-facing content related to migration and ethnographic practice.
