The Department of Classics, Modern Languages and Linguistics is an interdisciplinary department studying modern and ancient languages and related cultures while offering exchange opportunities to study abroad and a strong sense of community.
Areas of study
Classics
Explore a critical and exciting period of world history in an integrated and interdisciplinary environment that encompasses the study of all aspects of ancient Greece and Rome.
Modern Languages
We offer undergraduate degrees, minors, and certificates in multiple languages. Our Department is unique in that we welcome students from other departments to take our language courses.
Linguistics
Discover basic logical and mathematical patterns within language, explaining children's innate capacity to acquire new languages effortlessly. Learn how all languages are built from the same fundamental building blocks.
Note: The Department does not offer translation services nor the certification of translated documents.
Special funding for out-of-province students
Up to $4000 for undergraduate programs.
Research
Our academic research includes the Diniacopoulos Collection, one of the largest private holdings of antiquities in Canada. It includes artifacts from ancient cultures of the central and western Mediterranean—Egypt and Syria to Greece, Italy, and Cyprus.
