Healing, Well-Being, and Photographs

PhotoTherapy, Therapeutic Photography, and other photo-based helping techniques for improving well-being

The Gail and Stephen A. Jarislowsky Institute for Studies in Canadian Art and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Society and Culture (CISSC) invite you to join a two-part study circle on Healing, Well-Being, and the Visual Arts. Drawing on the insights and experiences of practitioners, activists, artists, and researchers, the program considers therapeutic and community initiatives, as well as places of healing.

A single registration covers Speaking of Photography, followed by Afternoons at the Institute. These online events are open to the public and free-to-attend. 

Judy Weiser, Psychologist, Art Therapist, Photographer, Founder & Director of the PhotoTherapy Centre in Vancouver, and author of PhotoTherapy Techniques: Exploring the Secrets of Personal Snapshots and Family Albums.

She is a pioneer of the photo therapy movement, will speak from her work with individuals and communities using personal and public photographic images.

Afternoons at the Institute
4:00 - 5:30 pm EST:
 A Public Conversation on Healing, Well Being, and the Visual Arts. The distinguished panel includes Cynthia Hammond (Concordia University) on restorative landscapes; David Hornstein (McGill University Health Center) on intensive care journals during critical illness; Tamar Tembeck (OBORO) on hospital art practices; and Janis Timm-Bottos (Concordia University)  on the Art Hives Network for Health and Well-being. Judy Weiser will join the discussion that will be moderated by Institute Director Martha Langford.
