How do we create alternative ways of working and living together within a system that encourages division and disengagement? As it increasingly becomes necessary to compromise our values, the need to carve out places for imagination and co-creation increases tenfold. But how do we build and, more importantly, maintain these types of spaces of care and cooperation?
Join us to hear about concrete examples of collectives that are creating spaces and approaches for new possibilities and experimentation from Food Cooperative CultivAction, Indigenous Support Workers Project (ISWP), and Community Healing Days and discuss how we can widen the realm of what’s possible when we come together to create different futures.
Let us know you're joining us by registering.
Community Healing Days is a low-cost sliding scale healing project offering traditional therapies to low income and marginalized folks who are underserved by the public healthcare system.
CultivAction is a solidarity cooperative of urban farmers whose mission is to facilitate transitions towards food sovereign communities by practicing regenerative agriculture to nourish local populations, cultivate urban green spaces and to support sustainable food production. CultivAction offers urban agriculture workshops and community service-learning opportunities to empower people with the knowledge to grow their own food and participate in a movement to cultivate a more resilient, just and food secure future.
The mandate of Indigenous Support Workers Project (ISWP) is to center and support the well-being of Indigenous people with lived experiences of homelessness through decolonial advocacy and revitalization practices. ISWP is committed to providing wrap-around care and fostering relationships of trust based in wholistic healing and skills development to support our community members’ transition to an autonomous and empowered life free from homophobia and transphobia, and other forms of structural violence.
Please note - this event is held in person, at the SHIFT space. If, for accessibility reasons, you are not able to join in person but would like to attend the event, please contact shift.calendar@concordia.ca and we can work together to see if an alternative solution is possible. A week’s notice will give us the best chance of making something work. Follow these links for more details about the accessibility of our space and how to find the SHIFT Centre.
