  • Anatomy Video and Imagery Diversity Project
    AVID is a database of freely available original images and videos that properly showcase the range of human diversity and that are of sufficient detail and quality to support excellent anatomical teaching across multiple disciplines and levels of learner expertise.
  • Breath of life
    Explains why the body needs regular supplies of air and how it gets them. We follow the process of breathing through the ultra-thin membranes of the lung into the blood, and see how the exchange of information between the brain and the chest muscles responds to the varying demand for oxygen. We also see how the body rids itself of carbon dioxide.
  • Decision
    Shows how the human brain organizes input and output to make a simple but lifesaving decision. Examines the functions of the cortex, nerve circuits, and individual nerve cells.
  • Factors affecting performance: Energy systems
    Explains the process by which working muscles get their energy from the breakdown of ATP (adenosine triphosphate ), and how the anaerobic and aerobic energy systems provide energy for the re-synthesis of ATP. It covers the ATP-CP energy system, the lactic acid system, and the aerobic energy system

    In order to understand homeostasis in a natural setting, this program observes what happens to the body during a marathon race. By monitoring the various physiological responses of one of the runners, we show the many changes and adjustments being made in the body as the race progresses

    Shows the range of mechanisms through which the human body maintains a steady internal temperature and protects its vital organs. Covers shivering, hair erection, changes in blood flow, sweating, and panting.
  • Life under pressure
    Depicts the journey of a red blood cell around the human circulatory system to discover the efficiency and elegance of design that delivers oxygen and food to all parts of the body and removes wastes before they can do harm.
  • Moving parts
    In this program we see how muscle activity is coordinated by the cerebellum, and how position sensors in the muscles and joints and the balancing mechanism of the inner ear enable us to control our bodies. We see how muscles, joints and organs link up.
  • Muscle
    The widespread nature of muscle tissue in the body is introduced as this program looks at the complex movements involved in the exercise of rowing. The nature of muscle itself is examined, from its gross structure to its detailed microstructure, where chemical energy is harnessed to produce movement. As muscle forms the basis for much of a person's body shape, we explore the ways in which this shape can be changed by the activities we perform.
  • Muscle power
    Through cinemicrophotography, shows how human muscles produce enormous strength as two types of molecules telescope against each other in large numbers. Includes muscular activity that takes place involuntarily, such as contraction of the heart muscle and the motion of the digestive tract.
  • The impact of stress, exercise, and lifestyle on the immune system
    This video reviews the components of the immune system including a definition of the basic cell types of the immune system that are important and a simple overview of their function. The video outlines the specific effect of stress, exercise, and lifestyle on the immune system and provides guidelines for incorporating exercise and healthy lifestyle practices into daily life.
  • The musculoskeletal system
    Shows an overall appraisal of strength, structure, and function of the musculoskeletal system, emphasizing the normal shape and symmetry of muscles, bones, and joints. Also demonstrates normal range of motion in joints.
  • The Spine
    Demonstrates the structure and functions of the spine, explaining the effect of the development of spine and nervous system from the same cells in the embryonic stage, and how the complexities of the system are responsible for many of the commoner aches and pains that people experience.
  • The video atlas of human anatomy
    Shows dissections of unembalmed human bodies. Gives a three-dimensional view by having the specimen rotate relative to the camera.
  • Two hearts that beat as one
    Describes the structure and functions of the human heart. Analyses the three basic components of the heart--muscle, valves, and pacemaker--and shows how each helps the body meet the demands of daily life.
