The objective of this workshop is to address the specific challenges presented by waste management and waste-to-energy techonology implementation in Northern communities and how these challenges differ from the rest of Canada- including practical restrictions on accessing Southern markets for hazardous waste disposal and recycling, limits on technological solutions due to the small population base and economics of scale, and the implementation of best practices in the management of existing dump sites. The workshop was facilitated by Nathan Curry, post-doctoral researcher at the Institute and organized by the Concordia Institute for Water, Energy and Sustainable Systems in collaboration with Polar Knowledge Canada.
