Bridging Divides at Concordia University invites incoming full-time Master's and PhD students to apply to become Graduate Fellows. We seek students whose research examines how emerging technologies, including AI, are reshaping migration, work, and community life, and whose work aligns with one of our four interdisciplinary focus areas:
- Citizenship and civic participation
- The future of work
- Healthcare
- Responsible and ethical use of advanced technologies in migration
Proposal at-a-glance
Graduate Fellows will become affiliate of the Concordia Institute for Research on Migration and Society, will receive a stipend and participate in a year-long program designed to:
Explore migration studies and Bridging Divides' core themes from an interdisciplinary perspective
Build connections with global research leaders in migration and technology studies
Develop essential skills for research success and academic leadership
Master's students: $5,000 stipend
PhD students: $7,500 stipend
The Bridging Divides Fellowship is stackable with institutional funding packages and external awards (SSHRC, CIHR, NSERC, FRQ).
We welcome applications from most research-based graduate programs at Concordia University, provided there is a clear connection between the applicant’s research and one of the Bridging Divides themes.
Students enrolled in course-based graduate programs (non-research) are not eligible to apply.

Step 1: Apply to a Concordia Graduate Program
Candidates must first apply to an eligible Concordia University Master's or PhD program according to that program's admission requirements.
Please note: Master's applicants who have completed fewer than three semesters of full-time graduate studies and PhD applicants who have completed fewer than six semesters of full-time studies are also eligible to apply.
Step 2: Complete the Bridging Divides Fellowship Application
After submitting your Concordia application, complete the online application form:
- Indication of which Concordia program(s) you have applied to and your potential supervisor
- Curriculum vitae (CV)
- Official transcript
- Statement of Interest or Letter of Intent from your Concordia program application
- Bridging Divides motivation letter (maximum 2 pages) explaining:
- Your interest in the fellowship
- Why you are a strong candidate
- How your research connects to one or more Bridging Divides research themes
Fellowship decisions will be made by April 2026, conditional on candidates' acceptance into their respective graduate programs.
