Logo
The logo is a symbol of the university meant to reflect the values and characteristics that define Concordia.
The logo has two elements: a graphic signature and supporting logotype. It is primarily a two-colour logo; however, versions are available for single-colour and reverse situations.
It must appear on all university printed and electronic communications.
Any Concordia employee or student group (provided permission has been obtained from the Board of Governors) must use the logo when representing the university. Please see Policy on the Use of Concordia University's Name, Logo and Related Insignia and the Governance of its Visual Character and Digital Presence.
All materials using Concordia logos must be approved by University Communications Services (UCS) prior to publication, upload or distribution in any way, whether posted on or off campus. When the materials are not for, or on behalf of, the university but still require the logo's use, the approval extends only to the use of the logo and not to the design of the materials.
Logo integrity
The logo must not be altered in any way and should always be used in the forms shown in this guide. Attention must be given to ensure that the logo is always readable, and that other images or design elements do not visually interfere with the logo. The logo must appear in its entirety, save for exceptional circumstances as determined and approved by UCS.
Logo spacing
To protect the integrity of the logo, in print situations it cannot be used in a size less than one inch (1") wide.
The logo must always be surrounded with padding space which is based on the x-height of the letters in the word ‘Concordia’:

Logo colour options
The full-colour version of the logo is preferred. However, depending on the background colour/situation a single-colour version may be more appropriate.
Logo colour usage
When applying the Concordia logo to a design, it is recommended to use the colour logo on a white background or, in some instances, on a very light-coloured background. On colored backgrounds, monochromatic or reversed versions should be used for best contrast. The final combination of logo/background should yield the highest contrast possible.
When placing the logo on non-uniform backgrounds, it is best to choose ones that do not interfere with the logo’s visual effectiveness and that create a suitable contrast. Visually dynamic backgrounds are to be avoided. See below for examples.

Building signage
Facilities Management is responsible for all signage across the university. However, any new signage to be installed on campus must be approved by UCS as well as Facilities Management. Since much of the university’s signage was installed prior to the re-branding, the burgundy used in most signage is slightly different from that of print materials.
Logo configurations
Concordia main logo
The main default logo.
Concordia Montréal logo
The variation to be used on national and international recruitment materials.
Concordia web logo
The logo for the institutional homepage.
Concordia compact logo
This variation will be used when viewed alongside external partners, to increase its visibility in relation to other logos. See padding space needed.
Signage logo
Due to the nature of specific exterior and interior signage, the Concordia logo will appear without Université or University. Approval for this will be determined by UCS on a case-by-case basis.
Department, Institute and Centre logos
Faculty logos
Faculties use the Concordia logo with their information beneath or beside.
John Molson School of Business - Signature
In certain instances the John Molson School of Business signature logotype may be used on its own, appearing with the university name in this way (All exceptions must go through UCS for approval):
Department logos
The department, institute or centre name should appear under or beside the Faculty name. Department graphics which predated the new look (2008) were discouraged in order to continue to strengthen Concordia’s brand, but nonetheless incorporated into the new logos. As of 2013, any “grandfathered” icons or logos may only appear as design elements within publications. All exceptions must go through UCS for approval.
Multi-department logos
Multiple departments should be grouped beside the logo.
Language of logos
Logos will be in English on all English and bilingual materials. A French logo may be used on French-only materials.
When there is no logo
To ensure brand consistency when a logo is not in use, specific guidelines have been established for making any written reference to an academic unit. The name should be written as Concordia University's (Faculty, Department or Academic Unit). For example, when referring to the John Molson School of Business and no logo appears, it should be Concordia University's John Molson School of Business. The same holds for reference to a non-academic unit.
